Wetherby accountant 
wins national award

A Wetherby businesswoman who “fell in love with tax” after starting work at an accountancy practice straight from school has won a top UK business award.

Claire Turner, director and founder of TLC Accountants, scooped the trophy for Start-up Business of the Year at the Forward Ladies Women in Business national finals.

Mrs Turner said: “I was astounded to pick up the regional award, so I’m absolutely speechless about winning the national one – and people who know me know that I’m not speechless often!

“This isn’t just an award for me, it’s an award for the whole TLC team.”

Griselda Togobo, Forward Ladies managing director, said Mrs Turner was inspirational. “She was a worthy winner as she’d done the most in the shortest amount of time. Her enthusiasm just shone through!” she said.

Debra White, HSBC regional director of small businesses in the North of England, agreed. “For me it was the passion and the inspiration that just made me go wow!

“When you find someone that really cares that’s just amazing and it makes them stand out,” she said.
