The first UK car scrappage scheme ran from 2009-10 and removed 392,227 older models from the road in a bit to reduce CO2 emissions.
In the face of Dieselgate and growing concerns over air pollution, recent years have seen calls for the Government to repeat the scheme. However, it has resisted amid fears that a new scheme could cost more that it is worth.
Instead, individual manufacturers have been operating their own schemes, offering additional discounts on new models when buyers trade in older, more polluting models.
With news that Ford has joined the list of car makers offering a scrappage discount to buyers, we’ve taken a look at exactly what is on offer.
