Titled ‘A Magical Couple of Hours: A Celebration of Pantomime in Halifax’, the free exhibition will run from until Saturday, February 6 next year.
Curated by The Friends of The Victoria Theatre in collaboration with Calderdale Museums Service and The Victoria Theatre, the display offers a nostalgic journey through a beloved theatrical tradition, and forms part of the Victoria Theatre’s 125hth anniversary celebrations.
Visitors have the opportunity to uncover the fascinating origins of pantomime, tracing its roots from the Victorian and Edwardian stages right through to the modern day. The exhibition features a vibrant collection of authentic costumes, props, historic posters, and original programmes, highlighting why pantomime remains the beating heart of British theatrical life.
The grand opening event featured a special guest appearance from Andrew Pollard, The Victoria Theatre’s pantomime dame, as well as free craft activities for children, and a mini pantomime performance from the young members of the Halifax YMCA Pantomime Society.
