Bike challenge for community campaign is underway

A team of about 20 Ravenscliffe High School staff, pupils and friends have taken to the saddle in the 42-mile Tour de France legacy challenge to raise awareness and money towards its Ravenscliffe@SpringHall campaign to build a new £3m sixth form and community centre at the nearby athletics track, Huddersfield Road.

The weather is miserable, but the team’s spirits won’t be dampened.

The peloton left Spring Hall at 9am this morning and are expected to return at around 3pm where there is a public cycling challenge taking place at Spring Hall with a static bike challenge and a Go Sky Ride British Cycling Halifax Speedway bike ride event taking place from 1-4pm.

The school cyclers will be joined by Halifax businessmen Bryn Bevan and Nick Horsfall who yesterday set off on their mammoth 24-hour cycle challenge in support of a community challenge that has touched their hearts.

Bryn and Nick have been cycling through the night and have covered North, East and West Yorkshire on their 300-mile cycle route and have already raised more than £2,000.

Head teacher Martin Moorman said: “It’s going to be a tough challenge and the weather isn’t on our side today but we’re full of optimism and determination to build a new sixth form and community centre for our students and the public - we hope the public will come and show their support today in coming to say hello at Spring Hall.”
