Recent statistics show creative industries are growing at more than five times the rate of the UK economy, with one in 11 of all UK jobs falling within the creative sector.

To cater for this demand, exciting new vocational courses will be added to the college’s curriculum, with a focus on creative and digital, from September 2020.

OPEN EVENING: To find out more about Calderdale College’s creative and digital courses, a final open evening of this academic year will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 4.30pm to 7.30pm. For more visit www.calderdale.ac.uk.

Visitors will have the chance to meet the tutors, see live demonstrations, join campus tours and more. In addition, the first 100 registered visitors will receive a free Starbucks drink and a cookie – exclusions apply.

Courses for 16 to 18-year-olds include Digital Marketing and Acting for Digital Performance, whilst degree-level students will benefit from a new Creative Industries course, giving them the chance to study a full range of creative units, alongside their chosen subject.

Students studying these new courses will be taught in Calderdale College’s £1.7 million DigiHub, based at its Halifax campus.

The Creative & Media Studios feature Mac Suites, a Green Screen Room, Photography Studio, Cinema & Exhibition Room, Computer Lab and a Recording Studio.

In the last academic year, the college celebrated record achievement for creative courses, with 93 per cent of students studying art, design & media achieving or exceeding their aspirational target grade.

Robin Smith, Curriculum Manager for Creative, Digital & Enterprise, said: “The Creative Industries are key to the UK economy, so it’s essential that our students stay ahead of the curve by gaining the skills needed to succeed in these careers.

“A more digitally-focused curriculum, developed with our industry partners, will help to plug the skills gap and give students a competitive edge when applying for jobs.”
