In the provisional figures released by the DfE, Calderdale pupils have not only achieved the borough record high of children working at Level 4 or above (the expected level of achievement at the end of primary education), but have also beaten the national average in every area.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, Coun Megan Swift (Park, Lab), said: “It’s great news that Calderdale schools are consistently performing above the national average at Key Stage 2. The figures also show an improvement in Calderdale’s record high levels of last year.

“These fantastic figures are the result of the dedication and hard work of pupils, teachers and parents, and I’d like to congratulate them all for their efforts.”

The areas measured were grammar, spelling and punctuation, reading, writing and mathematics. In each of these areas Calderdale children improved on their performance from last year.

In reading, writing and mathematics the results have improved from 72% achieving Level 4 or above in 2013, to 75.1% achieving the same level this year.

Key Stage 2 covers children between the ages of seven and 11.
