The new MP for the Calder Valley is seeking assurance that cash pledged under the last Government to rebuild 11 Calderdale schools is still on its way.

Josh Fenton-Glynn, who took the constituency for Labour from the Conservatives in July, has written to the new Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson checking the funding is safe.

"Many of our schools have needed to be rebuilt for over a decade and only at tail end of the last government did they start to act,” he said.

"I am determined as MP to fight for the best start in life for all Calder Valley students,” he said.

In his letter, he tells the secretary of state: “I have spoken to a number of the local head teachers and they all wish to underline the importance of a good learning environment to support the already excellent and hard working staff teams.

"I have also been asked to extend an invite from some of our high schools so they can show you first hand the work that needs doing and I’d very much like to welcome you to Calder Valley for this visit.”

The schools which have been allocated rebuilding cash are:

Central Street Infant and Nursery School in Hebden Bridge

Cross Lane Primary and Nursery School in Elland

Riverside Junior School in Hebden Bridge

Shade Primary School in Todmorden

Stubbings Infant School in Hebden Bridge

The Brooksbank School in Elland

The Calder Learning Trust in Mytholmroyd

Todmorden C of E Juniors, Infants and Nursery School
