Educational tour day for Minster

The Secretary of State for Education and Women and Equalities Minister, Nicky Morgan, visited education centres in Calderdale as part of her Yorkshire tour.

Ms Morgan toured Calderdale College’s multi-million pound Unlocking Potential Transformation Project and state of the art facilities including the Inspire sport and fitness centre and technology centre.

The visit last week saw the Conservative frontbencher talk to current and former apprentices about their path to an apprenticeship, their experiences at the college and their goals for the future.

John Rees, Principal and Chief Executive of Calderdale College, said: “The visit was a great opportunity for our apprentices to explain exactly why they chose to do an apprenticeship at the college and what they are getting out of this unique hands-on learning experience.

“I think Ms Morgan was impressed by what she saw and the feedback she received from current and former apprentices, he said.

Crossley Heath School also hosted a visit from the minister.

During her visit, the Secretary of State spent time discussing education policy with senior leaders and governors. She was particularly interested in support work undertaken by Crossley Heath and had evidently done her homework on the school’s partnership with Park Lane Learning Trust.

This discussion was followed by a tour of the school led by some of the students.
