Emergency closure of Calderdale school as floods cause power failure
A school in Calderdale has been forced to close for the day after heavy rain and storms caused damage to the building.
Lightcliffe Academy has sent a message saying that floods inside the school resulted in a power cut in several areas of the academy, including the kitchen.
A spokesperson for the school on Stoney Lane said: "The school will be closed today due to flooding overnight leading to power cuts throughout the school meaning we cannot open safely.
"Further updates will follow at some point today.
"Teachers will set remote learning for the lessons students would have had today.
"Sorry for any inconvenience caused but in terms of health & safety and Safeguarding we cannot allow students into school."
