Moorside Community Primary school pupils and staff left in tears after shocking burglary

Pupils and staff were brought to tears as they returned to a Halifax school to find extensive damage and equipment stolen from their classrooms.

An investigation is underway after burglars broke into the new multi-million Moorside Community School on Friday night.

Head teacher Dani Worthington has described the moment teachers and pupils returned to the school and saw the aftermath of the burglary.

"The staff and children were in tears on Monday morning. They can't get over the fact that someone would steal from children," she said.

"I don't think the people who did this understand the effect that this has had on the children staff.

"The suspects were capture on CCTV. They all came in through the rear door at the playground.

"So much damage has been caused as they broke a lot of the classroom doors. We have no doors on three of the classrooms.

"They came in carrying Sainsburys carrier bags and they were in and out in ten minutes.

"Along with the site manager and other teachers we came up and cleaned the damage and the joiners came to make sure everything was safe so we could open.

"The children have done some writing exercises to share their feelings on what has happened.

"I just want to thank the community for all their messages of support and how disgusted they are that this has happened."

West Yorkshire Police said the burglary is believed to have occurred at around 10.05pm.

"Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or has any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference 13180576819."
