The Friends of Colden School (FOCS) parents’ group is working with teachers to transform the old fashioned tarmacked rectangle into a more modern, exciting place for the children to explore, get active, learn and use their imagination.

The group has big plans, with a £15,000 fundraising target. The first phase is already complete, with a series of colourful markings painted on the playground.

ESP, who have been responsible for the painting, will be teaching older children and staff the games to go with the multi skills zone markings to pass on to other children. In the meantime, the children have already started using them to make up their own games.

The playground will be open to the children if the local community outside of school hours and during holidays and weekends.

“Parents and children have been working tirelessly this school year to raise money to improve the facilities we have in our playground,” said Sarah Hetherington, acting head teacher.

“They’ve done a fantastic job, organising bake sales and donations from local businesses and organisations. There’s more to do, but we’re already over the moon with the playground. I can’t wait to see it finished.

“Thank you to everyone who’s helping to make this possible for the children.”
