Ryburn Valley High School confirmed that a Year 13 student had received a test result back saying they had coronavirus.

Posting on the school's Facebook page the school said: "Following one confirmed case of Covid-19 in a Year 13 student, we are closing a 'bubble' of students who have been in contact with the affected case. These 40 students must self-isolate at home and may return to school on 19 October.

"The families of those students have been contacted directly by phone and email. The school and sixth form remains open, so - unless you have been specifically informed that your son or daughter is in the affected group - they should continue to attend as long as they remain well.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness. The student who tested positive in this case is believed to be infected from a known source outside of Ryburn."
