Pupils miss out on first choice

More than 200 students missed out on their first choice of secondary school places when they move up to new schools in September.

Figures released by Calderdale Council show that 17 per cent of pupils missed out on their first choice - with 83.2 per cent of students getting a place, compared to 83.6 per cent last year.

Meanwhile 7.8 per cent got their second choice and 3.5 per cent were given a third option for secondary school places.

No pupils were left without a place - the same figure as last year. The figures from last year show that 7.5 per cent of people received their second choiceand 3.9 per cent got their third option.

Across West Yorkshire, 17 per cent of students in Leeds and Kirklees missed out on their first choice; while, 5.1 per cent of Kirklees pupils’missed out altogether.
