School life: Calderdale College student shares how she has overcome diffulties

Bethany Sutcliffe, former student is currently in her first year at Leeds Trinity University, studying Secondary Physical Education and Sports Coaching.

She tells us about her journey and the difficulties she had to overcome: “After dropping out of Huddersfield New College I really struggled to find a job and ended up signing at the job centre. From there, they have recommended undertaking the Prince’s Trust Team Programme at Calderdale College, which sounded like a great opportunity to get back into education.”

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a personal development and team building course which enables young people to develop their personal skills through a series of projects and challenges. It’s a perfect opportunity to gain qualifications and experiences to really enhance their CV’s. Beth believes her experience with Calderdale College was a stepping-stone to get her on her desired career path: “I have developed my personal attributes such as my confidence, communication and teamwork; and I gained the qualifications I needed to get into the university. Most exciting thing of all is that I have also managed to secure my-self a work placement!”
