School life: Calderdale College student to premiere his own production

Joshua Bywater is a 16 years old, very talented Film and Photography student at Calderdale College. He is also the writer, director, editor and producer of his own recently produced film, The Messenger.

He said: “The Messenger is a script I wrote a few years ago now; I would say 2-3 years ago and put to the side for future use. With my course being very film based, I decided to bring a load of mates from both Calderdale College and Huddersfield New College to put this piece together!”

This exciting drama film tells the story of a man, John Dowson, who is a messenger that delivers information from one place to another. After 10 years of working for this secretive company, on his last day he decides to open the letter he is delivering - this move might be his “biggest” mistake.

The production of the film has been supported by 16-19 years old cast members, Harry Lovatt who played the main character; Mark Davison, Louis Connell, Joseph Jablonski, Xavier Paine and Tia Birch. It features various places across West Yorkshire, including Blackstone Edge, Boothtown, Sowerby Bridge and Calderdale College.

Mark Davison said: “Filming has been an absolute pleasure whilst working with Josh; we’ve had countless hours of fun whilst making the film. We’ve been filming since the beginning of February and I have to say, the effort Josh has put into this is spectacular!”

This project has been extremely successful and the film is now to be premiered in a 290 seated independent ‘Rex Cinema’ theatre in Elland. It will take place on July 12 at 6pm and is £5.
