Schools’ soccer finals ready for the Shay Stadium

The Hi Energy Gym Calderdale Cup featuring schools from Calderdale will head into their final showdown this week.

Organised by teacher Alex Miller from Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School, the finals will be making a return the Shay Stadium in Halifax.

“The competition this year has gone from strength to strength with the most schools that we have ever had entered into the competition with 12 different schools taking part with over 900 students playing in the competition, which will set this up to be a fantastic final once again this time at The Shay stadium,” said Mr Miller. “Who knows we could find the next Lee Gregory.”

The dates for the finals are:

Wednesday May 7

Year Seven. Ryburn v Brooksbank (KO 4PM)

Year Nine. North Halifax Grammar school v Brooksbank/Rastrick. (KO 5.30pm)

U19 Final- Hipperholme & Lightcliffe High School v Trinity Academy. (KO 7pm)

Thursday May 8

Year Eight. Hipperholme & Lightcliffe High School v North Halifax Grammar School (KO 4pm)

Year Ten. Hipperholme & Lightcliffe v North Halifax Grammer/ Rastrick. (KO 5.15pm)

Year 11. Hipperholme & Lightcliffe v Brighouse. (KO 7pm)

“The finals are open to anyone who wants to watch. We would love to see as many people down at the Shay as possible to support all the boys on finals day,” added Mr Miller

Prices are £2.50 Adults, £1.00 Concessions.

Hi Energy Gym in Halifax is sponsoring the cup this year so the cup will be known as the Hi Energy Gym Calderdale Cup.

Owner Chris Anderson has also said that as part of the sponsorship anyone who watches the games will receive with their ticket and team sheet a seven day free pass for the gym.
