Thousands of children will dress down in school campaign

Thousands of school pupils are expected to take part in a campaign to support Calderdale’s only special high school.

Over 15,000 pupils from 40 Calderdale schools will take part in the ‘dress down for a pound’ campaign to support Ravenscliffe High School, Halifax, in their fundraising efforts to build a new sixth form and community site at nearby Spring Hall, Huddersfield Road.

The school must raise £1.5 million towards the building of the proposed sixth form and community site.

Ravenscliffe High School head teacher Martin Moorman said: “This unique day is part of the fundraising campaign which will allow the new sixth form provision at Spring Hall to begin in earnest.

“The benefits to both Ravenscliffe and the community across Calderdale will be enormous. This is a very ambitious project but I am certain that, with the continued support from our community, this will soon become a reality.”

Calderdale Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, coun Megan Swift (Lab, Town), said: “It’s fantastic that children across Calderdale are joining together to help raise money for Ravenscliffe. I’m really proud of all our young people, it really demonstrates a great community spirit.”

Some of the schools taking part include Todmorden High School, Calder High, Mytholmroyd, Brighouse High, Rastrick High, Brighouse, Woodbank School, Luddenden Foot, North Halifax Grammar School and Crossley Heath Grammar School, Halifax.
