Paul Butcher, Calderdale Council’s Director of Public Health, said: “We’re currently recruiting for the position of Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner. This is not a new post, but an existing vacancy which we’re looking to fill.

“We take the risk of the spread of infection very seriously and this post would work within our Public Health team to provide specialist advice, support and training across the health and social care system to ensure a safe environment for users, staff and visitors.

“Of course, we can all take steps to prevent the spread of infections - something that is especially important at the moment.

“There are a number of ways in which individuals can protect themselves and their communities:

· always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel

· wash your hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds each time with soap and water or, if unavailable, use hand sanitiser, especially when you get home or into work, blow your nose, sneeze or cough or eat or handle food.
