The Council's Director of Public Health Deborah Harkins said the coronavirus case rate per 100,000 for tests carried out seven days prior to October 20 was 378.

That is a rise from 354 on September 19.

She said: "This is very serious. We can play our part by reducing contact with others and isolating if we or someone we live with has symptoms, or if we’re told we’re a contact."

Halifax MP Holly Lynch also highlighted the director's message on Twitter as she confirmed that she has just finished a period of self-isolation.

Reacting to the infection rates she said on Twitter: "These infection rates are really serious. I’ve just finished 14 days of self-isolation as a precaution following a message from the app.

"I know it’s hard but please do follow the guidance to the letter. If you need help to do that, please contact either my office or Calderdale Council."
