Calderdale making progress as Covid-19 infection rates continue to fall

Improvements are being made by redoubling efforts to try and reduce spread of the virus which is now present in a more transmissible form, says Calderdale Council, which urges people to stay at home where possible and when they need to go out keep socially distances from others, do not mix with others and wear a mask.

And West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership says shielding advice has once again been issued to people who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

Robin Tuddenham, who is Co-chair of the Local Resilience Forum and Calderdale Council’s Chief Executive, said the way that partners have come together with their communities to support those shielding has been one of the really positive experiences from the pandemic.

“It’s a story of kindness and quiet determination, with our voluntary and community sector playing such a pivotal role.

“This event will provide an opportunity to listen and learn, and in particular understand the lived experience of those who have shielded, and what this tells us about how to build back a stronger health and care system in West Yorkshire,” he said.

NHS Digital seven-day interval summary data from January 17 to January 23, 2021, show the borough’s case rate being 209.5 per 100,000 people with 443 cases.

This is a slight drop of seven per cent on the previous period, when the rate was 210.4 cases per 100,000 people.

The January 17 to January 23 data also shows Calderdale had a 34 per cent decrease in triages – the number of calls from people who think they may have coronavirus to the various NHS lines – with 164, a triage rate of 34 per 100,000 of people.

The Government’s figures show the number of positive cases in each area in Calderdale for the seven days to January 20 were as follows.

The Government figures by local area are classed as Middle Super Output Areas – each has an average population of around 7,200.
