Valorum Care has launched a recruitment drive for care workers to fill both temporary posts left vacant by workers hit by the virus and long-term vacancies caused by the lack of new care staff entering the sector.

The provider operates care schemes, White Windows in Sowerby Bridge and Alexander House in Halifax, and currently has 15 vacancies at the schemes.

Across Yorkshire, the provider has almost 70 vacancies.

White Windows supports people who have varying needs as a result of physical and long-term neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, acquired brain injury and motor neurone disease. Alexander House is a residential care scheme for older people.

Robin Sidebottom, of Valorum Care, said: “We know employers are now faced with making incredibly tough decisions, which will leave a worrying number of people out of work and little prospect of other job opportunities.

“Our message to those affected is that we have jobs, so please get in touch with us. We know many people who have been made redundant will have the skills that can easily be transferred to the care sector.

“The Coronavirus outbreak does mean we need additional staff to cover staff self-isolating, but there is also an opportunity for people to change career.

“We don’t expect applicants to have previous experience of care work, just a passion for working with people.

"I have spent almost 30 years in the sector and it is incredibly rewarding when you know you’ve been able to make a difference for the better in someone’s life.

“We are now hiring with immediate effect. We need you and would be thrilled to provide you with a new opportunity at this incredibly challenging time.”

To minimise the risk of infection, Valorum Care will be recruiting via Skype interviews and running online training with competency assessments.
