Number of new coronavirus cases in Calderdale over Christmas weekend

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Calderdale increased by 112 over the Christmas bank holiday weekend, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 9,489 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday (December 28) in Calderdale, up from 9,377 the same time on Thursday (Christmas Eve).

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Calderdale now stands at 4,488 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 2,000.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 140,302 over the period to 2,329,730.

However, this does not include figures for Northern Ireland which have not been updated since Christmas Eve.

Calderdale's cases were among the 249,639 recorded across Yorkshire and The Humber, a figure which rose by 3,385 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
