The Piece Hall has closed due to the coronavirus pandemic

It will close to the public until the government announces that it is safe to reopen.

In a statement released at about 5pm on Tuesday, a spokesman said: "The Piece Hall is determined to support ongoing efforts to minimise the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

"We have nothing but admiration for all in the NHS, at Calderdale Council, the Police, those supporting the food supply chain and people in wider society, all doing vital work to keep Calderdale going.

"Against this backdrop The Piece Hall must play its part too.

"It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close The Piece Hall to the public for the time being.

"This is a sad day for us all, but our primary concern must be the health and safety of all.

"Please look out for information on how specific shops are adapting their offers online going forward.

"Don't worry though – it’s not forever.

"We will continue to liaise closely with government, the council and the police force and we will keep you updated about when and how we will reopen.

"Please rest assured, The Piece Hall will be here ready and waiting to welcome you all back when this crisis has passed.

"And it will pass.

"For now, please follow government guidelines and stay home, keep fit and look after each other.

"See you on the other side."
