GP practices rated '˜good' by watchdog

Todmorden Group Practice and Rydings Hall Surgery in Brighouse have both been rated “good” by the Care Quality Commission.

Both were visited as part of a new programme of inspections by the CQC of GP surgeries in England.

The CQC said improvements in leadership were required at the Todmorden surgery, based at town’s health centre on Lower George Street.

But it was praised for patient care and its services for older patients.

The CQC report said: “The practice was responsive to the needs of older people, and offered home visits and urgent appointments for those with enhanced needs.”

Inspectors contacted two nursing homes which had residents registered at the practice.

The report added: “They both told us they were very happy with the service provided to their residents.”

The Todmorden practice was rated good in the inspection areas of being safe, effective, caring and responsive.

It was given a “requires improvement” rating for being well-led.

The report said: “Some staff told us they felt isolated and unsupported at times.”

Rydings Hall Surgery, on Church Lane, Brighouse, was rated “good” overall and in all five inspection areas by the CQC.

Inspectors praised the surgery for caring for people with long-term health conditions, and for helping troubled children.

The report said: “There were systems in place to identify and follow up children living in disadvantaged circumstances and who were at risk, for example, children and young people who had a high number of accident and emergency attendances.
