The team was inspired to take on the challenge by a person from the local YUMS (young people united by MS) who had completed a charity 15,000ft tandem sky dive.

Alan Johnson, Laura Fraser, Josh Odle, Tom Eves and Nikki Scott successfully made tandem jumps with instructors at Skydive Hibaldstow’s airfield in Lincolnshire.

Two members of the team were unable to jump because of the weather conditions.

Branch Support Officer Jeremy Odle, father of Josh, and Sam Lowther, who both have MS, hope to take the plunge later.

The branch events co-ordinator, Fiona Jones, said: “The team had been seeking sponsorship since February and had hoped to raise £5,000.

“The branch set up a just giving page and individual sponsorship.

“The grand total £1941 in sponsorship has been raised for Harrogate and District MS Society, which will go to providing vital support,

advice and information for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in Harrogate district.”

Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological condition affecting around 100,000 people in the UK.

Fiona added: “This is a fantastic amount of money that has been raised.
