The events were part of the charity’s annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning appeal.

• Year 6 pupils at Brackenfield School planned and ran their own stalls.

The school thankedMrs Cornock, Mrs Titchmarsh and Year 6 Form Tutor, Mrs Sowa.

• 14-student Nun Monkton Primary raised £154.92 - all in one hour. Thanks go to the school council for organising the event and parents for donating the cakes.

• Rock Up and Sing! opened the doors of its studio to serve tea and coffee to supporters, visitors and neighbouring businesses.

Musical director Rhiannon Gayle said: “We were delighted by the support we got for our coffee morning, which was a big hit with everyone who came along. We’re also very grateful to everyone who baked for us, and to our fantastic live singers, who helped us raise lots of money on the day.”

• Politicians took part, too. MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough Andrew Jones and Skipton and Ripon MP Julian Smith were forced to miss coffee morning events in the district because parliament was recalled to debate the Islamic State crisis in Iraq. However, the pair were able to join an event held at Westminster.

• Boroughbridge mum and owner of Mini Swimmers, Elaine Ives, hosted her second coffee morning raising over £400 to support those with cancer.

La Rascasse Continental Coffee Bar, also in Boroughbridge, donated the coffee, serving over 60 cups. Family and friends also helped bake the selection of cakes.

Elaine said: “It was so lovely to see so many friends and family join us, enjoy a natter, coffee and cake whilst raising an incredible amount for Macmillan.”

• Knaresborough Macmillan Coffee Morning was held in Holy Trinity Church Hall. This event has grown since Vera Charters held the first one 21 years ago in her home.

29 local shopkeepers donated raffle prizes. A total of £1,482 was raised.

• Barclays Bank in Harrogate raised £130.

The branch thanked everyone who supported it to make this happen.

• Tony and Gilli Hill opened their home at Markington to welcome over 100 people. Gilli said: “So far, the amount raised this year is over £1,100 bringing the total amount raised since we started supporting this very worthy charity to well in excess of £9,000.”

• Marks and Spencer Café in Harrogate raised £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after a successful day of fundraising.

• Furniture retailer and manufacturer Multiyork hosted a special coffee event at its Harrogate store raising £39.

• Staff and students at Rossett School took inspiration from the Great British Bake Off and produced a cake stall and coffee morning to be proud of.

Homemade cakes, buns and biscuits filled the drama studio, followed by crowds of hungry students who raised a total of £390.74.

Sixth form committee member Ella Smith Dunn said: “It was brilliant that so many people supported us, both in baking and buying cakes, and that we were once again able to support the work of Macmillan.”
