Peter frequently cycles in to work, however the most he had ever cycled in a day beforehand was 30 miles.

“We did a bit of training at the weekends, but nothing serious.

“The first day was really difficult. We did 52 miles and it was just hill after hill,” said Peter.

Overgate Hospice is close to Peter’s heart, as last year they cared for his wife Terrie during her final days. Terri was only 42 when she passed away from cancer.

Peter said:“Overgate is an absolutely amazing charity. When Terrie was unwell, every single member of staff went above and beyond to make us feel as comfortable as possible. From the nurses and doctors to the cleaners to the receptionists, everyone was so lovely.

“At the beginning Terrie felt a bit nervous about going there, but as soon as we walked in we were put at ease.

“When I would leave to go look after our daughter Ruby, I knew she was in safe hands.”

So far Peter has managed to raise over £3,300, more than double his original target of £1,500. Collectively, the group raised over £8,500.

“I’d like to thank everyone that’s donated, you’ve helped to support an amazing cause that makes a huge difference to so many people’s lives. Overgate gets most of its income from donations and lockdown has had a big impact on the charity, so every donation really counts at the moment,” said Peter.

In order to continue their round the clock care, Overgate Hospice needs to find £11,600 every single day.
