The project is due for completion in late summer/autumn 2026 and will bring parking at the hospital to more than 800 spaces.
There will also be electric car charging points, extra blue badge spaces, cycle parking facilities and 24/7 CCTV.
A spokesperson for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust said: “As a commitment to honouring the important heritage of the town, the design of the car park compliments notable buildings which distinctly link to Halifax’s rich history and includes a specially designed façade in keeping with the local area.
“Ahead of construction, work has taken place to make sure the landscaping around the car park has a positive impact on the local environment. Biodiversity has been promoted in the design, including a significant increase in hedgerows and habitats for wildlife to thrive.
“The landmark designs with landscaped surrounding areas on site will offer the very best experience for our patients and visitors.”
Preparations have also started this week for the construction of the new hospital building later in the year.
Some parking spaces will be unavailable and visitors are asked to park in marked bays only to allow emergency services to get through quickly.
Due for completion in 2029, the new building will include eight wards, and a new emergency department - with separate areas for adults and children.
