The historical markers are a permanent sign installed in a public place to commemorate a link between that location and a famous person, event, or former building on the site.
Here are ten blue plaques commemorating important people, places or organisations that have been unveiled by Halifax Civic Trust over the years.
9. Dr Phyllis Eleanor Bentley
Dr Phyllis Eleanor Bentley was a West Riding novelist acclaimed for her 1932 masterpiece, Inheritance. Her blue plaque was sponsored by Halifax Thespians and unveiled at the Playhouse, Halifax.
10. Oliver Smithies
Oliver Smithies, a geneticist who in 2007 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, unveiled his own blue plaque in 2010 at his former school, Copley Primary School.
