From ghostly pubs to spooky sightings on the street, here are 16 locations in the area and their stories that could have come straight from a Halloween film.

13. Theatre Royal
The Theatre Royal was built in 1905 and could hold an audience of up to 2,000. It replaced the old theatre and the ladies toilets are said to be haunted and machines have mysteriously switched themselves on and off. Photo: Halifax Courier

14. Ring O' Bells
The old pub sits in the shadow of the Halifax Minster and dates back to the 1700s. It is believed that taps turn themselves on in the middle of the night and switches turn themselves off. Photo: Halifax Courier

15. Bacup Road
Bacup Road, which leads out of Todmorden, had a spooky event happen back in 2011. It was reported that a ghostly brown cat with high hind legs was wandering along the road. Photo: Jim Fitton

16. Crown Street
The offices are said to be haunted by James Edward Jacobs, who was murdered there in 1858 when he worked for weekly Halifax paper The Guardian. A senior apprentice carried out the deed with a dumb bell and hatchet. Photo: James Hardisty
