From ghostly pubs to spooky sightings on the street, here are 17 locations in the borough and their stories that could have come straight from a Halloween film.
5. The Piece Hall
The famous Piece Hall was built between 1775 and 1779 as a cloth market for the display and sale of pieces of worsted and woollen cloth. It is said to be haunted by market men who were murdered there.
6. Kirklees Priory
Legend says that outlaw Robin Hood is buried in grounds of old Kirklees Priory. In 1924 a tenant farmer was suddenly knocked to the ground as he walked near the grave. He saw a figure in the gatehouse window holding a bow.
7. Former Halifax Railway Station
The former Halifax railway station waiting room near the Eureka Museum is now used as offices and a nursery. It is believed to be haunted by an old passenger and man who worked on the rail yard.
8. Wainhouse Tower
Wainhouse Tower, built in the 19th century and standing at 253ft tall, is one of the most prominent landmarks in Calderdale. Back in the 1990s there was a sighting of a wailing ghostly figure by the tower.
