Save Britain's Heritage reveal the crumbling Calderdale building they've added to their At Risk register

A building in Calderdale has been added to the conservation charity SAVE Britain's Heritage's At Risk register this month.

The new entries to the 2021 register have been suggested by conservation officers and members of the public.

The charity hopes to raise awareness of the plight of disused and neglected heritage assets in the hope that they can be saved and repurposed.

Ovenden Hall is another property from the 17th century. It was built in 1662 for wealthy cloth merchant Joseph Fourness, and is also on Historic England's Heritage At Risk register. One wing has been converted into housing, but the remainder is dilapidated and decaying.

SAVE officer Liz Fuller said: “Holding on to our heritage through the buildings that we love is essential in times of change and upheaval. Now more than ever, focus on preserving our historic buildings and finding them new uses can generate optimism and faith in the future.”

The hall has an imposing south front of higher quality masonry, originally with three gables; the west wing was added in the late 19th century.

he roof to the hall is in poor condition with attendant decay. The building has been subject to heritage crime.

Historic England is working with the owners to cost repairs to the building and explore opportunities for reuse.
