The historic day, which marked the end of World War II, saw millions of people take to the streets to celebrate peace and freedom and mourn those they had lost.

It is marked each year with a memorial service, and a weekend of national celebrations had been planned.

Though many of these celebrations have now been postponed, we feel it is important to mark the occasion as best we can - and we need your help to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for our country and tell the stories of the people of our communities who pulled together through unprecedented times for the best interests of the country.

Perhaps you have your own memories of the day of celebration, or a family story from the front line that's been passed down through the generations.

Or maybe of the changing roles people at home played in making sure daily life continued.

Maybe you've got a collection of photos, but never been sure what to do with them, or perhaps you've prepared your own tribute that you'd like to share with the world.

Whatever your story we want to tell it. Send us your pictures, stories, videos, memories and more on Facebook, or email them to [email protected]
