But despite that, average house prices held up across England – even if there was a drop in sales.

In Calderdale prices rose by 0.2% in the year to September 2020. Across West Yorkshire, prices rose by 3.2%.

The ONS also publishes house price figures by Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs) – small geographic areas containing an average of 7,200 people.

The biggest price hike was in Central Halifax & Boothtown where the average price rose to £128,706 in 2020, up by 17.0% on the year to September 2019.

These show 15 of the 27 MSOAs that make up Calderdale saw a rise in house prices over the same period.

In Mytholmroyd & Cragg Vale the average price rose to £210,310 in 2020, up by 16.2% on the year to September 2019.
In Clifton & Bailiff Bridge the average price rose to £197,412 in 2020, up by 16.0% on the year to September 2019.
In Northowram & Shelf the average price rose to £243,123 in 2020, up by 15.0% on the year to September 2019.
In Mixenden the average price rose to £128,273 in 2020, up by 14.6% on the year to September 2019.
In Sowerby Bridge the average price rose to £151,251 in 2020, up by 10.0% on the year to September 2019.
In Rastrick East the average price rose to £202,773 in 2020, up by 8.1% on the year to September 2019.
In Sowerby & Luddendenfoot the average price rose to £191,250 in 2020, up by 7.1% on the year to September 2019.
In Norton Tower & Mount Tabor the average price rose to £176,568 in 2020, up by 6.4% on the year to September 2019.
In Pellon West & Highroad Well the average price rose to £103,980 in 2020, up by 5.2% on the year to September 2019.
In Elland the average price rose to £158,362 in 2020, up by 4.8% on the year to September 2019.
In King Cross the average price rose to £80,693 in 2020, up by 4.3% on the year to September 2019.
In Greetland & Stainland the average price rose to £195,922 in 2020, up by 1.3% on the year to September 2019.
In Illingworth & Ogden the average price rose to £165,511 in 2020, up by 1.1% on the year to September 2019.
In Hebden Bridge the average price rose to £233,543 in 2020, up by 0.2% on the year to September 2019.
