A VILLAGE hosts its first scarecrow festival over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The Northowram community has come together to organise the four-day event over May 4 to 7 and money raised will go towards village projects.

Businesses and residents are being encouraged to display scarecrows and support social events.

Entertainment includes a rock band at the Yew Tree Pub; a scarecrow trail with treasure hunt; cream teas in St Matthew’s Church; beer festival; craft activities; three-legged walk and car boot sale.

Andrew Garrett, of the Yew Tree, said old vehicles will also be on display and hopefully there will be a motorcade around the village.

“We hope as many people as possible will support this first event and all monies raised will go to local causes within the village,” he said.

Calderdale has an established scarecrow festival in Norland which is now in its 13th year and takes place from August 31 to September 3.
