Students have a brush with art in Amsterdam

The group from Northlight Art Education stayed in the heart of the city’s famous museum quarter within walking distance of the magnificent Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh gallery, Rembrandt’s House and the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art.

The trip was part of Northlight’s wider cultural programme, open to all its students, which includes visiting artists, gallery visits in the UK, open studios and exhibitions.

“Events like this foster creative friendships and provide inspiration for students to take their work to new heights,” said tutor Sue Turner.

Exploring the city’s architecture by canal boat emphasised Amsterdam’s unique trading history.

Many students also took the opportunity to visit the famous house where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during the Nazi occupation. Add street markets, tulip fields, jazz clubs and over a million bicycles and you have a taste of one of Europe’s most exciting cities.

A fresh summer programme of courses has now started after the Easter break with more subjects on offer than ever before including a new print course, summer school and exhibitions of painting, ceramics and textiles.

Northlight Art Education aims to be the fastest growing creative network in the Calder Valley and students are already discussing next year’s trip to Europe.
