10k donation to SmartMove
Calderdale SmartMove will be able to house another 23 individuals and families thanks to a £10,000 donation from the Deposit Protection Service (DPS).
SmartMove assist people who are on benefits or low incomes and who are homeless or in housing need to access housing, by guaranteeing a bond on their behalf.
The Deposit Protection Service established a fund in 2014 to assist charities that support the homeless and those who need help to live.
Craig George, from Calderdale Smartmove, said: “For many people, finding long-term accommodation is extremely challenging, and by giving more individuals and families a helping hand, we can make sure more people have somewhere safe and comfortable to live.
“We’re really grateful for the funding, and it’s great to work with organisations that share Calderdale Smartmove’s ethos.”
Chris Leonard, senior business manager at the DPS, said: “Calderdale SmartMove plays an essential role in the local community by housing those in need and providing support and education to help people access employment.
“Since the launch of our charity fund the DPS has given £150,000 to housing charities and we’re delighted to continue to fund such crucial work.”
Calderdale SmartMove, who have offices on Harrison Road in Halifax and at Todmorden Community College, was established in July 1998 and has a management committee made up of volunteer members and staff who oversee and plan activities.
