1940's event is back in business

Brighouse businesses will be hoping for a boost in trade when the town steps back in time for it's 1940's weekend, featuring a fun-packed weekend of entertainment.

Brighouse town centre and its shops will be transformed into a 1940s theme at the event, which has been organised by the Brighouse Business Initiative.

Visitors will be able to sit in a Spitfire, ride on a vintage bus, bake 40’s bread, see Churchill and King George VI, sing-along with George Formby and learn to dance the Lindy Hop.

Major attractions include a fly-past by RAF BBMF Dakota on Saturday, June 6 at 1.20pm, while there is also a vintage market, local food market, vintage military and civilian vehicles, a steam train and fairground rides, remembrance service and parades.

Dances will be held with the Calderdale Big Band on Friday, June 3 at the Assembley Rooms and with the NyteBeat Glenn Miller Sound on Saturday, June 4, also at the Assembley Rooms.

The classic TV sitcom Allo Allo will be recreated on stage, with three performances over the weekend.

The remake of the Dad’s Army film will also be shown on Thursday, June 2 at the Assembley Rooms.

The event runs from June 2 to June 5.
