A CHARITY has been given £25,000 to help the homeless.

Calderdale Smartmove at Portland Place, Halifax, was given the grant by Lloyds TSB England and Wales.

The charity work with people who are either homeless or potentially homeless.

Users often have associated problems including mental health, domestic violence and drug and alcohol issues. They help find private rented accommodation and offer up to two years support.

The two-year grant will fund the salary of a volunteer co-ordinator. to run peer support groups and training sessions in local schools.

Director Stuart Rumney said: “Volunteers provide vital support to Calderdale Smartmove for the benefit of the community of Calderdale.

“We will offer volunteers a comprehensive training and mentoring package to ensure they enjoy their work and feel valued for their contribution. It is brilliant for Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales to support local charities in the community. We can now deliver a sustainable volunteering service.

Pat Greenwood, Grant Manager for Yorkshire and the Humber, wished the charity success in their work.
