PLAYGROUND plans have been boosted after bus bosses awarded £2,000 towards improvements.

Wood Bank Special School in Luddenden Foot was awarded the cash by First’s new charities and sponsorship committee.

The money will help pay for a clear perspex cover for the outdoor play area, giving shelter to less mobile pupils and allowing children to play outside in most weather.

Mick O’Neill, a committee member and bus driver for First in Calderdale, said: “First’s donation will help the school’s 56 youngsters and we are proud to help such a well-run school as Wood Bank.

“As the principal bus operator in Halifax we see it as our responsibility to offer support to charities and our new regional charities and sponsorship committee is available to good causes needing a financial helping hand.”

The committee was set up to consider requests for funding from across the north of England, with a focus on young people, health and the environment.

Corinne Kielty, of the Friends of Wood Bank, submitted the successful funding bid to First.

She said: “We would like to thank First.

“This now means we have reached our target to fund an outdoor covering for the play area and this will allow the children to play out in nearly all weather.”
