MOCK crash scenes will be staged in Halifax’s Piece Hall to stress the importance of road safety.
Firefighters, police and paramedics will be hosting Emergency Services Day on Saturday, November 19, from 10am until 3pm to launch Road Safety Week.
As well as staged accidents to show how casualties are freed from crashed cars, there will be a driving simulator so visitors can test how they manage being behind the wheel while there are a rang of distractions.
Equipment from all three emergency services will also be on show.
In Calderdale last year, firefighters rescued more than twice as many people from road traffic collisions (41) as they did fires (17). The theme of this year’s Road Safety Day is ‘Too Young to Die’.
Nigel Hotson, the fire service’s district manager, said: “Road crashes are the biggest killer of young people, yet they are often preventable.”
