A MAN who poured beer on a police officer has been given a conditional discharge.
Carl Maughan, 20, of Thornes Park, Rastrick, admitted resisting arrest.
Police were called to his home on January 12 after neighbours reported hearing shouting around 10pm.
When officers arrived they were told Maughan and his partner had an argument.
Officers agreed to give Maughan a lift to his family home to calm down.
On their way out of the flat, he started shouting and swearing at officers and threw a can of beer over one.
The officers had to use CS spray to subdue him enough to arrest him.
One of the officers was hit in the eye by Maughan during the incident.
Waseem Raja, prosecuting, said: “The officer was trying to do her job and it was becoming a lot more difficult by this defendant’s actions.”
As well as the 24-month conditional discharge, he was told to pay costs of £85 and £100 compensation to the officer.
He also admitted failing to attend court last month.
