Pure Gym in Halifax held a step-a-thon to help raise money and awareness for a challenge that is being completed by two members.

Ben Moorhouse and Gaynor Thompson are taking on a completely new challenge between August 3 to 5 and putting their lives at risk all in aid of charity.

The two friends are walking 67 miles down the east coast of the Greek island of Rhodes, where temperatures can reach up to 50 degrees C, to raise money for the Steve Prescott Foundation, a charity very close to their hearts.

Ben, 32, said: “We’re hoping that by doing a challenge like this on such a large scale we’ll get more support.”

Gaynor, 34, who has lost nine and a half stone in preparation for the challenge, said: “One of our training walks was from Halifax to Skipton and back, a distance of 48 miles, which shows the scale of the challenge we are facing.”

Tom Hoesli, manager of Pure Gym Halifax, said: “Gaynor got in touch to ask if we would put up some of their posters but instead we decided to would chip in and have a bit of fun.”

They’re aiming to raise £2000 and donations can be made on their justgiving page, www.justgiving.com/Ben-Moorhouse-Gaynor-Thompson.
