VILLAGERS in Midgley decorated wells and springs as part of Spaw Sunday celebrations over the bank holiday weekend.
The traditional festival, which celebrates the importance of wells to the village, has not been recognised for nearly 40 years.
But it was revived with 10 wells (spaw is an alternative spelling of the word spa) being decorated, thanks to Midgley Community Forum.
Residents tied balloons to the wells, painted murals around them and one was decorated with walking boots and maps.
Two of the wells were chosen to be specially decorated by pupils from Midgley School.
Midgley has more than 15 wells, once vital for ensuring the village had fresh water.
