Residents will be able to delve into the history of Sowerby Bridge as the Fire and Water Group host ‘An Old Fashioned Evening of Entertainment’.
The event at St Paul’s Church at 7.30pm on November 11 will explore the historic advancement of the town.
The evening will take the form of a slide show, using some fantastic vintage photographs of the town.
The group will be looking at the path of the original pack-horse road (Old Cawsey), the arrival of the turnpike (Wharf Street), the canals and the coming of the railway.
Historically Sowerby Bridge was a very well connected industrial town, and in terms of its developing infrastructure managed to keep a step ahead of Halifax, which gave our industry a serious advantage.
All proceeds will go to the restoration of the Fire and Water buildings and the St Paul’s Youth Supporters group (SPYS).
