It’s that time of year again!
The straw people of Norland are back and will be singing - or miming - their way to stardom as part of this year’s Scarecrow Festival.
The annual event unites villagers, schools and churches as they create wacky and wierd straw creations.
This year’s theme is Popstars and groups and expected scarecrows will include Lady Gaga, Madonna and Tom Jones.
It is expected there will be about 60 entries into the competition.
Traditionally the giant scarecrow goes up to welcome visitors. He is has been built outside the Spring Rock pub.
Now in its 11th year, this year’s event will run from September 2 to 5.
It is centred at the playing fields and there are new improved trail sheets, scarecrow goodies and food and drink for sale.
Music will be provided by the “Friendly” and “Hebden Junior” Brass Bands.
Last year, money was donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Norland School, Overgate Hospice, Forget Me Not Trust, Norland Church Luncheon Club, Norland Church Fun Club and the Katherine Ward Memorial.
Money was also spent on two stones which have been carved by Terry Thompson to welcome visitors into the village.
As well as carefully scribing “Norland” he has included scarecrows on each of the stones.
