A new localised Welfare Assistance scheme has been approved by Calderdale Council Cabinet.
It will replace Community Care Grants and Crisis Loans for general living expenses from April.
It is designed to ensure that Welfare Assistance is aimed at vulnerable local people to help them live an independent life or to help them meet their immediate short term needs in an emergency or as a consequence of a disaster. Emergency Emergency Living Support will replace Crisis Loans for general living expenses and Community Living Support will replace Community Care Grants.
The new scheme will include vouchers and services instead of money (except in exceptional circumstances), limit the number of awards to two in any 12 month period, and reduce the maximum award to £500.
