In October, John Maden Howard tackled a house blaze sparked by a pumpkin lantern - dressed as Frankenstein’s monster. Mr Maden Howard and his wife Carolyn were travelling along Cragg Road, Ceagg Vale, to a fancy dress party, when they spotted flames through a window.

Dressed in full costume, he quickly made his way into the property to fight the fire. Two teenagers in the property were unaware of the blaze.

Speaking at the time, Tom Marr, crew commander at Mytholmroyd Fire Station, said: “It was brave of him to be so quick thinking. He prevented what could have been a very serious house fire.”
