Calderdale SmartMove are hoping to bank some cash from a Tour de France-inspired bike challenge.

Lloyds Bank on Commercial Street in Halifax town centre have put an exercise bike inside the branch with the aim of cycling 400km in a week.

The week-long challenge is started yesterday and will go on all week until Saturday.

The public are invited to cycle as much or as little as they want, with every penny raised going to Calderdale SmartMove, whose chief executive Stuart Rumney raised £55 after cycling 40 kilometres when he popped into the bank this week.

He said: “I am very appreciative of the work Lloyds do in the community and monies raised would be used to purchase vital hygiene goods that are used in our starter packs.”
