The facility was officially launched during Sports Day, following months of tireless fundraising efforts.

The entire Barkisland Primary School community were instrumental in their efforts to raise the £75k needed to pay for the track. The School undertook various creative fundraising activities to secure the necessary funding, including a Tesco blue coin appeal and a track sponsorship event.

Additionally, National Grid donated £30k in total, with a chunk from their Bringing Energy to Life (BETL) community fund. The BETL scheme allows schools and community groups affected by works to apply for special grants. This grant was a result of on-going works across Halifax and Blackburn to regenerate 60km of overhead electricity lines

“We’re thrilled to see the children enjoying the track. It’s great to see first-hand what a meaningful difference our Bringing Energy to Life community fund can make.

"Any time we commence works we’re mindful of how it can impact the local community. Over the years, hundreds of children stand to benefit from the track and we hope it inspires a generation of athletes!”
